SmartEdit Checks — Choose Which Checks to Run

When you open SmartEdit for the first time, the section on the left of the main window will list numerous checks that can be run. All are switched on by default, and it’s a good idea to run them all at least once until you’re more familiar with the software and with which checks are of most benefit to you.

You also have the option to specify whether many of those checks are run against the entire work, or run selectively against dialog or prose. This option assumes that you are using double quotes for your dialog, as we haven’t finished work on the single quote filter yet (work in progress). If you’re one of those writers, who feel that quotation marks are for wimps (not looking at you Cormac McCarthy), then I’m afraid that the dialog only option in SmartEdit will be of no use to you.
